Time Warner Cable is now Spectrum and the company is saying that it is looking for a fresh start now. Charter Communications, which recently merged with Time Warner cable and Bright House Networks via purchase, thereby becoming the nation’s second largest cable company after Comcast, launched Spectrum last week in Columbia.
Time Warner Cable serves cable television customers throughout South Carolina in Greenville, Columbia, Hilton Head, Florence, and Myrtle Beach.
Stamford, Conn-based Charter is offering a variety of Spectrum cable, phone and internet services in South Carolina based on national and uniform rates, with no contracts, no termination fees and backed a 30-day money back guarantee. But the current subscribers can also stick with their current offerings and promotions of Time Warner Cable, the company said in a statement.
Charter is rebranding under new name Spectrum at the time of increased competition in the cable, internet, and phone industries. The company is now busy in upgrading equipment so as to provide a higher grade of service across all platforms, said Patrick Paterno, the director of public relations of the company for Carolinas. He also said the Spectrum provides customers with superior products, including the most HD, the fastest internet speed, and a full featured price combined with outstanding service.
Paterno further added that Time Warner customers who are currently in a package with a top internet download speed of 50 megabits per second will be automatically bumped to 60 megabits per second as the new service reaches their areas, even if they will continue with their current package. New customers of Spectrum will be outfitted with 100 megabits per second of internet speed. Another benefit of the internet package of Spectrum is that they don’t include modem lease fees.
Charter completed the its $55.1 billion purchase of Time Warner cable in May 2016, a little more than a year after collapsing the planned purchase of Time Warner Cable by Comcast due to government opposition. Charter also closed its purchase of cable provider Bright House Networks at the same time, creating the nations’ second largest cable provider with more than 25 million customers in 41 states. The customers of Columbia are not likely to miss the Time Warner Cable name. The company is often the subject of criticism over customer service and pricing and has long finished near the bottom of customer service ranking.
In the latest study by the American customer satisfaction index in 2016, Time warner Cable got the second lowest score among the providers for television services, a 59 out of a possible 100. But Charter was the only slightly better with a score of 60 out of 100, which was down by three points in 2015.
For internet service, Time Warner Cable was the fourth best with the score of 66, better than Charter’s 63.
Charter is going to face the challenge in keeping up its numbers because past data shows that customer satisfaction drops when companies combine their operations. The company said it is investing in its service, taking steps such as bringing back jobs from the overseas call centers.
Overall the company says that it is planning to add almost 20000 jobs, the majority directly serving customers.
